The second edition of Xàbia Negra, the Festival of the Genre “Noir” will be held from November 3 to 5.
The Councilor for Culture, Quico Moragues, has announced that prestigious authors will attend, such as Vicente Garrido, Ferran Torrent or Toni Hill, as well as three English language authors, Gordon Brown, Craig Robertson and, Alexandra Sokoloff. This year Xàbia Negra is “twinning” with “Bloody Scotland”, which helps to project the event internationally and will increase participation of the event with many foreign residents. (These Roundtable authors will be joining the festival on Saturday 4th November at 12 pm.)
Gordon Brown is a crime and thriller author with six novels to his name. He has been writing since his teens and helped found Bloody Scotland – Scotland’s International Crime Writing Festival. His latest books, Furthest Reaches, the second in the Craig McIntyre series and Falling Too, the second in the Charlie Wiggs series are just out. He’s also part of the Anthony award winning anthology ‘Blood in the Bayou’.
Gordon lives in Scotland but splits his time between the UK and Spain. He’s married with two children. In his time he has delivered pizzas in Toronto, sold non alcoholic beer in the Middle East, is a DJ on local radio and was once booed by 49,000 people while on the pitch at a major football Cup Final.
Former journalist Craig Robertson is the author of seven novels, six of them set on the mean streets of Glasgow. He is an international bestseller and his books have been translated into several languages. His debut novel Random was a Sunday Times bestseller and shortlisted for major awards. His most recent book, Murderabilia, was a finalist for the McIlvanney Prize for the best Scottish crime novel of 2017.
American Alexandra Sokoloff is a former Hollywood screenwriter turned bestselling and award-winning author. She has written 12 novels and The New York Times caller her work “some of the most original and freshly unnerving work in the genre.” Her Huntress-FBI series, which features a vengeful female serial killer, is currently in development as a major American TV series. The festival includes three contests (short films, photography and literature in Valencià) This year, Isabel Bilbao explained as representative of this group, has received a hundred contestants and it has been very difficult to decide the winners.
A high participation has also been registered in the photography contest. From the Agrupaciò Fotogàfica de Xàbia (AFX), José Alberto Tur and José Vives. They have received more than 250 photographs for the contest, of which some 50 have been chosen to be mounted in the exhibition that will be shown in the market on the days of festival.
The winners of both competitions, as well as the story will be announced at the gala that will close Xàbia Negra on Sunday afternoon November 5 at the Jayán cinema.
