The Criminal Court in Benidorm has sentenced the driver who fatally ran over a 43-year-old woman and her dog on a pedestrian crossing in Javea three years ago, to two and a half years in prison and three and a half years driving license ban.
The sentence indicates that the defendant was guilty of homicide due to gross negligence while driving under the influence of drugs.
According to the sentence, the prosecution asked for four years in prison and a four years driving ban. It was also indicated in the judgment, that the driver’s insurance company took over the Civil Liability and compensated the relatives of the victim.
The events occurred in January 2018. The accident occurred at around 8:30 p.m. on Avenida Juan Carlos I. The driver was driving toward the historic centre when he suddenly ran over a woman and her dog who were crossing the zebra crossing, causing their death, according to the sentence.
The defendant stated that he did not notice a woman crossing the crosswalk.
