Javea Town Council has begun the installation of a video surveillance system in different areas of the municipality. in a project which aims to reinforce public safety and grant the local police the tools with which aid investigations.
The first phase of this project has been carried out in C/Calvari in the Old Town. Three cameras have been placed along the streets, which offer a high resolution, have a fixed focus and can even recognise the number plates of vehicles. There is also information signage.
Once they have been installed, the Town Council will send all the necessary documentation to the Government Delegation in order to receive the relevant authorisation, as it is a public space on a public highway.
The local government, together with the Local Police, have started the installation of a video surveillance system to meet the demands of neighbours, businesses and shopkeepers’ associations, as this is an important tool for facilitating police and the detection and investigation of criminal acts.
As the councillor for Public Safety, Juan Ortolá, commented, “this project is much broader and will cover a much larger and new areas of the neighbourhoods. The councillor remarked that “our intention is that it will be implemented by the end of the year”.
For her part, the mayoress, Rosa Cardona, underlined that one of the local government’s commitments “is to improve public safety” and “we are focused on this, with two lines of work, on the one hand the increase in the number of officers and on the other the incorporation of technology and material resources.
