Dominika Egorova (Jennifer Lawrence) is a Bolshoi dancer who, after a fracture, is forced to withdraw from the world of dance. Forced by the Russian authorities, as the only way to maintain their privileges and those of their sick mother, the young woman is recruited by the secret services of her country. Dominika will be part of a top-secret KGB program called Red Sparrow. There, you will learn the art of espionage using methods of seduction, a very effective system to extract information from enemy informers.
His first objective will be a CIA agent based in Russia, called Nate Nash (Joel Edgerton), who turns out to be the one who manages the assets of the organization in the place. One of those assets is Marmol, a mole who has been infiltrated in the highest levels of the Russian foreign intelligence service for years. That is why Dominika is entrusted with the mission of discovering the identity of the mole, a fundamental task. But in parallel she will embark with Nate Nash in a spiral of threats, deception and sexual attraction that will jeopardize both their careers and the safety of their respective nations.
This adaptation of the eponymous espionage novel written by Jason Matthews is directed by Francis Lawrence (The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2, Water for Elephants), while the libretto has been commissioned by Eric Warren Singer (The Great American Scam).
