Millions of years ago, before the appearance of homo sapiens, primates discover a monolith that makes their intelligence develop to higher levels than those already acquired. 
Millions of years after the discovery, another monolith that is buried in the moon attracts the attention of scientists. 
In the most recent stage, during a NASA mission, the HAL 9000 machine, which is equipped with artificial intelligence, is in charge of controlling the systems of a manned spacecraft.
