by Loraine Gostling

Javea council is drwaing up a Strategic Tourism Plan based on the criteria of quality, sustainability and innovation and foresees the implementation of 46 actions over the next 3 years.

Javea Town Council aims to promote the municipality as a tourist destination that is committed to continuous economic growth and improving the quality of life for residents, and is, therefore, promoting the development of the Strategic Plan 2023-2026.

The document was unanimously approved by the plenary last November, and has been presented at the Consell de Turisme and includes a total of 46 short and medium term measures with the aim of promoting the resources that the city possesses in order to work constantly on aspects aimed at finding new types of tourism.

In this way, the aim is to reduce the major negative effects due to “seasonalisation” and in general to improve and protect it, making Javea a much more responsible and balanced tourist destination.

The Strategic Plan is structured around five points: Tourism Governance and Tourism Intelligence; Digital Transition; Strengthening of the Tourism Area and Quality in Destinations and Competitiveness.

AUREN Consultants have been commissioned to develop the plan. Key elements have been considered as collaboration in the stages of analysis, diagnosis and prioritisation with the participation and involvement of residents, the tourism sector, public and private agents that indirectly participate.

The plan’s objective focuses on promoting the correct use of our tourist, natural and heritage resources, making a more complete tourist experience of the town, known both at national and international level.

The councillor for Tourism, José Marcos Pons, remarked that it is “an open and living document” which will govern the town’s tourism policy for the coming years.

The mayoress, Rosa Cardona, stressed that the Strategic Plan is the result of several years’ work and emphasised that the government team wants to “improve the quality of our tourism and now we have approved an important tool for this”. She announced that the Town Hall is now working hand in hand with the business community to implement the different lines of action.
