Holiday Rental Warning

by Loraine Gostling

On the Javea Connect group, one of our members posted a warning regarding an online holiday villa rental company  based, it seems, in Madrid. They are advertising holiday properties all over the world and includes over 80 villas in Javea and Moraira alone.

Here is what Irene tells us:-

“WARNING: If you have a home for rental, please check if it has been listed in this  company “SPANISH RENTALS HOLIDAY ESCAPES SRHE”. AS WE BELIEVE IT TO BE FRAUDULENT…. Here is the link:
https://www.spainrentholidays.com

There are 44 listings only in Jávea, one of them is ours.
They appear to have copied all of the information we have on the legal page at Spain-Holiday.com, photos and even some reviews.

An English family made a booking with them, and even signed the contract, which is giving the address etc. to our house, but with bank details for the fraudster. In the last minute before  transferral of the money, they double checked, found our phone number and made a call to us yesterday. This is the way we got to know about it.

We have reported this to the police today, and of course to Spain-Holiday.com too. However, there might be some people out there who have paid for a holiday somewhere, and at arrival will find out that it is a fraud.
Please share to house-owners and everyone you know who could be looking for a rental house in Spain.

A comment by a local well known and trustworthy villa rental agency states:-

“We are also aware of this scam and they have copied some of our properties
I have asked GoDaddy to take them off line.
I feel so sorry for the people they scammed.
I have just ‘booked’ my own property at a fraction of the real price. I get a 10% discount if I pay in full today and the price includes airport transfers!!!
Their phone numbers go to voice mail
I imagine by now they have already scammed hundreds of thousands of pounds out of people!!”

We looked through several of the properties and found that they quote this on all that we looked at..“Calendar not updated…Contact property manager to check availability”

Further information on how to report suspected fraudulent websites:-

If your property appears on this site or you or someone you know has been scammed the web page image is for Action Fraud the UK Fraud reporting centre  https://reporting.actionfraud.police.uk/login
All reports of Fraud are now made to Action Fraud which is operated by The City of London Police. They collate and disseminate Fraud reports out to Police Force Economic Crime Units and other Regulatory Agencies.
They also liaise with other law enforcement agencies in other countries. Action Fraud also have disruption tactics such as Taking Fraudulent Web Sites down. The more people that report the more likely it is action will be taken. Emphasis needs to be placed on the ‘Prospective Loss To The Public’ .
You can report to Guardia as well but they will deal with it differently.
