Gateways to the sea

These wooden structures will function as entrance points to access the regenerated coastal paths of the Primer Muntanyar, that attracts the attention of walkers.

Not so long ago, vehicles were permitted to park along the whole of the Primer Muntanyar, from the port to the Parador. After the pandemic, when the confinement was lifted, one of the lanes of the coastal road was made pedestrian. Previously, a fence had been erected to prevent cars from driving almost all the way into the sea. Two car parks were left, one next to the Parador (next to the Arenal beach) and the other next to the mouth of the Gorgos river (next to the port centre). The next step was to put anti-caravan gates on these car parks.

Other gates are now being erected. They are part of the Primer Muntanyar regeneration project being carried out by the Directorate General for Coasts. They will serve as access to the pedestrian paths that will allow visitors to discover the rough stone quarry, the archaeological sites, the remains of the artillery battery from the Civil War and the indigenous flora.

The Primer Muntanyar will soon have delimited paths. It will no longer be possible to walk freely. Visitors will enter through the gates and follow the pathways. In this way, protected vegetation and archaeological and historical remains will not be trampled underfoot.
