The town council is now installing a new Wifi network as part of the WiFi4EU programme funded by the European Union and which promotes free connection public spaces, such as parks, squares, official buildings, libraries health centres and museums in
municipalities across Europe.
The councillor for New Technologies, Ximo Segarra, explained that there will be three networks to serve the three urban centres. In the Historic Centre, it is already up and running in the area around the Town Hall, in addition to the one that already provides service in the Plaza Constitución square from Play Jove.
In the port, the network covers the seafront promenade and in the Arenal, which is still in the implementation phase. This will cover the David Ferrer promenade and a stretch of the Primer Montañar.
Segarra added that in the town and port they are already operational – access is via theWiFi4EU network – and that in El Arenal it is planned to activate it before Easter as it requires a more complicated infrastructure and is more complicated and powerful because it is estimated that the potential number of users will be higher than other areas.
The councillor pointed out that this network, installed by the local company Fox Telecom, has involved an investment of 15,000 euros, which is 100% subsidised by the European Union.
