This morning the European Commission agreed this to reopen the borders to tourists vaccinated against the coronavirus if they have already received one of the vaccines approved by the European Medicines Agency. That is, the Pfizer, Moderna, AstraZeneca or Janssen vaccines. Currently the countries that would meet this requirement are the United Kingdom and the United States.
This news, which must be formally approved by the ministers responsible for Trade to be effective, is good news for the tourism sector!
It is expected to be tomorrow ( Thursday ) when the agreement will be formalised and will be published in the Official Journal of the European Union.
Although it is a Community measure, each EU member country can then adopt more restrictive measures in this matter. In addition, this measure may be carried out if the maximum incidence levels established by the EU are met. Until now it was 25 per 100,000 inhabitants, but now an incidence of 75 cases per 100,000 inhabitants is established.
