AN UPDATE FROM PRESS OFFICE at 20.34 stated :-
The fire brigade, local police, civil guard, civil protection, volunteers from Balcón al Mar, together with forest firemen have been working for some hours to extinguish a fire that has occurred in a wooded area in the urbanisation Tosalet, 3rd phase, between the streets Hiedra and Begonia.
It is an area with a lot of pine trees next to the houses and this is making the extinguishing tasks difficult. The authorities fear that more outbreaks will reproduce due to pine cones (the seed where conifers develop) and ashes. “Closed pine cones, when they warm up, can jump up to 500 metres and it is like a gasoline bomb with a fuse.”
The mayor, Rosa Cardona, accompanied by the Security Councilor Juan Ortolà, visited the scene at the time of the fire.
Some five houses suffered damage to the gardens and one of them with part of the garden furniture burnt. The cause is, as yet, unknown.
