Officers have started proceedings for a road safety offence, against a driver who, yesterday afternoon, was caught driving at 128 kilometres per hour on an urban road with a speed limit of 50 km/h. 78 km above the speed limit.
The incident took place along the Avda. del Pla, during a speed control carried out by officers as part of the campaign that has been launched throughout Spain by the DGT.
Since yesterday, Monday 7th April, a campaign of ‘intensive surveillance’ has been launche throughout Spain to ensure compliance with the speed limits set on roads and urban roads in the country. The Javea local police force has joined the campaign.
This measure aims to reduce traffic accidents and, in particular, fatalities and serious injuries caused by speeding.
The campaign, which will last until Sunday 13th April, will be carried out through the use of mobile radars that will be placed on different roads in the town.
This measure is part of the efforts to reduce the number of accidents on Spanish roads, one of the main concerns of the road authorities. Speeding continues to be one of the most common factors in serious accidents, and this campaign aims to raise awareness among drivers of the dangers of driving above the permitted limits.
The Local Police Headquarters and the Department of Public Safety have recalled the importance of respecting speed limits to ensure the safety of pedestrians and drivers, and insist on the need for responsible driving to avoid serious accidents.
