“The Real de Bernia restaurant reopened after over a year’s closure last week, and all I can say is WOW! Located on the Sierra Bernia, on the mountain road from Jalon to Pinos, the new owners have sunk their heart and soul into the place.
Not only is there low background chill-out music, there’s a lounge area, a formal dining area, and the outside terrace, all boasting wonderful views.
But that means nothing if the food isn’t any good. But this food isn’t good, it’s exceptional. Exquisitely presented, and with an enormous amount of dedication, the Real de Bernia has come up with a menu to suit all. In fact, it took us half an hour to choose! We decided on the light bites menu as we only wanted a small lunch, but there is also a comprehensive larger menu and also a Sunday lunch menu.”
In the end, I opted for the wild boar kofta, and my husband for a roast beef, brie and rocket baguette. With a glass (or two) of delicious local wine, the food arrived, which, to be honest, looked like something from a magazine. The kofta came with homemade tzatziki and flatbread, accompanied by a side salad with herbs. It was a total flavour explosion, and my husband looked totally surprised as I cleared my plate in minutes! The portion was a good size, but I just couldn’t help myself! My husband was offered horseradish sauce with his baguette, and immediately went to heaven as he took his first bite. The tender delicious beef, cooked to perfection, was superb, and accompanied by a side order of homemade triple-cooked chips, he was soon full up.

The Real de Bernia is well worth a visit, and I wish Steven and his team all the luck for the future, but I don’t think they’ll need it – the whole experience speaks for itself.
The light bites menu starts at just €3.50, mains are from €13.50 and a traditional Sunday roast menu starts at €17.95.
