The Alicante foreigners office are asking applicants from the EU/EEA making their applications for residency status as self sufficient, to show the sum of 9000 euros per applicant. This is almost double the resources as required by the regulations. Example; for two family members the requirement would be 9.415,28 euros.
Both the a Spanish royal decree and the European Directive on minimum resources for the residency applications of citizens of the EU, EEA and Switzerland coincide with the minimum resources. Extracts from the law and directive are posted
European Directive.
“Member States may not lay down a fixed amount which they regard as “sufficient resources” but they must take into account the personal situation of the person concerned. In all cases this amount shall not be higher than the threshold below which nationals of the host Member State become eligible for social assistance, or, where this criterion is not applicable, higher than the minimum social security pension paid by the host Member State”.
Spanish Royal Decree.
