La Guardia Civil have arrested two men as alleged perpetrators of the fire that affected 34 vehicles in the port car park on May 18th.
The fire, which spread rapidly due to the wind, left many of the cars completely burned.
On Thursday, two Spanish men, aged 45 and 53 were detained as alleged perpetrators of the fire. According to official sources, the fire spread rapidly due to the weather conditions at that time.
The events occurred when the detainees, who were in the are due to the celebration of an event, set off a firework display in the parking lot. The flames spread rapidly due to the proximity of other vehicles and the wind present at the time of the incident.
Several fire departments were on the scene and managed to extinguish the fire at around 3 p.m., but could not prevent many of the vehicles from suffering irreparable damage.
Once all the evidence was collected and analysed, Guardia Civil investigators determined the involvement of the two men in the incident. Both were arrested and brought before the Court of Denia, where they were charged with a crime of damage due to gross negligence. They were subsequently released pending trial.
