AEMET has issued a warning about the circulation of fraudulent SMS messages that impersonate the weather agency.
It reports that “some users have informed us that they have received SMS messages accompanied by a link. This is false.”
The supposed message, with spelling mistakes, says “A severe storm is forecast for your region. Prepare and stay safe,” followed by a download link.
This false claim takes advantage of the population’s fear caused by the terrible consequences of the recent DANA, so that the recipient clicks on the link that has been added to the message.

The agency has stressed that it never sends SMS and, therefore, any message of this type should be considered a scam. “If you receive a similar message, DO NOT OPEN THE LINK,” insists AEMET.
AEMET also reminds that its official application can only be downloaded through official app stores, urging users not to rely on external sources to download their software.
Fraud attempts using fraudulent text messages and emails are becoming more frequent, so extreme caution is needed in the face of these.
