Javea town council has approved measures to regulate the growing demand for tourist housing, seeking to balance economic activity with the quality of life for its residents.
The plenary session yesterday, unanimously approved the temporary suspension, for a period of six months, the granting of new reports of urban development compatibility for tourist housing in the municipality.
This measure will allow time for a detailed study on the impact and regulation of this type of accommodation.
The decision arises from the need to analyse, in depth, the effects of tourist housing on the housing market. neighbourhood coexistence, natural resources and overcrowding during the summer months.
In order to find a balance between the economic benefits and the social and environmental challenges, the City Council has commissioned a study that will determine the strategies to be adopted for the correct regulation of these properties.
During this period, all new applications for urban development compatibility reports, required to obtain tourist housing licenses, will be suspended, while the current situation is studied and measures are designed, in order to allow a more adequate and sustainable management of tourism in Javea.
It is worth noting that a few weeks ago the government team organised a sectoral working group on tourist housing, which was attended by representatives of all political parties and other sectors involved, to discuss the issue and address all the details of the measure taken today by the plenary.
