Imagine waking up on the middle of a vineyard… and experiencing the tranquilty of one of the most famous wine regions in the world?
Well, a vineyard in Portugal has fulfilled all these hopes and more, by installing oversized wine barrel hotel suites in the Douro Wine Region.
QUINTA DA PACHECA has created the novel idea of architectural wine barrel suites, located in an idyllic and romantic setting. Wine Barrels will combine a unique experience of contact with nature together with all the comforts of modern hotels.
People can travel down to explore the 140-acre vineyard, testing out the wine menu, before returning to their wine barrel to sit on their terrace with a delicious bottle (or several!).
Each 30 square metre suite includes a circular double bed, private wardrobe and bathroom with walk-in-shower, skylight windows and a private terrace. The rooms are also fully air-conditioned and fitted with Wi-Fi – so nothing will be missing from your life.
The pine-wood barrels were designed by property owners Paulo Pereira and Maria do Céu Gonçalves and are exact replicas of the ones used on the estate. The area also boasts its own on-site restaurant where guests can enjoy the local wine – red, white, rose and port – as well as other locally sourced products like preserves and olive oil.
Wine lovers who are keen to stay, can book a night in the barrels from *€190 (£160) or €205 (£182), with breakfast included. Guests who are not so keen on rolling out the barrels, can also stay at The Wine House Hotel with normal bedrooms available – but I know whcih one I would choose!!
