Javea Connect Brainiac Challenge – Oh what a night!

by Loraine Gostling

On Tuesday 6th June 22 teams from 15 local charities and associations (listed below) gathered together at The Dar Community Centre in Javea to compete for The Javea Connect “Brainiac Cup” and a share of 1,250 euros in prize money.

  • Thanks to all the wonderful sponsors of this event ( also listed below) every euro of ticket sales, plus a little sponsorship money, went back out in prizes

The 7 lucky prize winners winners were:-

  1. WINNERS – KIDDYWINKS ( Children’s Preventiorio Gandia) 500.00
  2. SECOND PLACE – BLONDE BOMBSHELLS  ( HELP of Marina Alta)  250.00
  3. THIRD PLACE – FASHIONISTAS ( HELP shop and office volunteers) 100.00
  4. FOURTH PLACE – PEGO POOP SCOOPERS (APROP) 50.00
  5. THE PICTURE ROUND WAS WON BY VINTAGE ( Cancer Care Javea) – 100.00
  6. THE STORY ROUND WAS WON BY THE OUTWITTERS (MABS) – 100.00
  7. THE PRIZE FOR MOST ANIMATED TEAM DURING THE MUSIC/SINGING/DANCING ROUND WAS WON BY HORSING AROUND (APAC) 50.00
  8. AND FINALLY – THE TREASURE HUNT ( Which caused mayhem and quite a few giggles!, lol) WAS WON BY KIDDYWINKS – 100.00

As previously announced, the remander of the proceeds of the night ( sponsorship and raffle money) will now be divided between the DAR Centre for their charity supporting victims of the war in Ukraine –  and Asapanion ( Spanish charity for children with cancer).

The night did run a little late for some but this was the first of its kind and I know, if there is a “next time” to cut it a little shorter! As they say, “a picture paints a thousand words” – so I will just let you scroll through the galleries so you can see just how much fun it was!

It was a pretty full house!

Alan, aka The Cheaky Blinder, kindly entertained the “troops” before we got down to business 🙂

Then it was time for Loraine Hannah and Kenn “Team Javea Connect” to start the quizzing

It all went very quiet and the teams got their heads together

First half done – break for the buffet supplied by the DAR team and paid for by our sponsors, while people tore around like things possessed trying to find 30 items for the treasure hunt.😂

Contestants were happy to pose a little for the photographer, MacFoto – some lovely photos here:-

And then, during the nail- biting bit at the end, when Andrea and Karlee were totting up the final scores, our hostess, Lola, calmed everyone with a mini piano concert.

None of this could have happened without these people…

  • All the charity volunteers giving up their Tuesday evening to pay to be put to the test!

  • The wonderful sponsors, who, by virtue of their generosity, allowed every penny of ticket sales to be given back in prize money.

  • Lola and her team at DAR Community Centre, who worked so hard to make the night a success.
  • My wonderful admin team, Hannah and Kenn, plus my pal Andrea and daughter Karlee (both of whom managed to dodge the photographer all night),  without whom, everyone would have still been there while I added up 88 score sheets! Hannah and Kenn are still traumatised by having to sort through 22 Treasure Hunt bags containing some very questionable personal items! 😂
  • Raffle prize donators:-
  • Casa Antigua
  • Jackie Schapper – Massage Therapist
  • Pure Wellness
  • Quick Save Javea
  • Pat McCue
  • Sue Nutbrown
  • Those who brought them in on the night.

thanks to everyone involved, especially my wonderful team

hannah, kenn, andrea and karlee

and Here’s to the next time!
