Bull Running – Over 4,000 protesters sign the campaign in just 4 days

by Loraine Gostling

La Marina Plaza has reported that Change.org, has collected signatures, at the request of a resident of Javea, to put an end to the well-known bullfighting festival of Bous a la Mar.

More than 4,600 people ( at the time of writing this article) have supported this initiative addressed to the Javea City Council. Obviously not all signatures are from this municipality, but the originator of the petition is and states “that thousands of euros of taxes are spent on mistreating animals, when the vast majority of the population does not attend because they completely reject it.”

Yesterday, the vice president of the Consell, Aitana Mas, also announced her willingness to open a debate on the prohibition of the Bous al Carrer due to the deaths that it had produced in Beniarbeig and Pedreguer as well as in other local towns in the Community . In this sense, this petition request emphasises that there are many other bull events in which abuse is more than evident: blows, pulls, sticks, kicks, insults, humiliation and the pure stress these poor animals must suffer.
