A Happy Story!

The first baby born to a Ukrainian mother who fled the terrible war, has been delivered in Denia hospital.

The first child of 44 year old Maria, a little boy, who weighed 2 kilos and 930 grams, came into the world by natural birth, at 4:25 p.m. yesterday afternoon. Both mother and son are in good health.

Mum, Maria arrived in Javea on March 7th from Strutyn, near the border with Poland. Her sister Natalia has lived here for more than 20 years.

She made the decision to leave Ukraine when she verified that Russian aircraft were bombing hospitals. She left by train from the Ukraine to the Polish border, where her brother-in-law and nephew were waiting for her, who had travelled from Jávea by car to pick her up.

The Obstetrics team has accompanied her at all times, since her husband, with whom she is constantly connected via video calls, had to stay in Ukraine. In addition, Maria has also had a translation service during childbirth from Alla Smolyn, of Ukrainian origin, has been working for more than 5 years in the Admissions Department of the hospital.

Jávea Red Cross has called for solidarity to help Maria with the necessary items for raising the baby and also with non-perishable food for the Ukrainian population that is arriving in the area.
